THE world's luckiest duck spent three
days trapped in the
engine of a family car with its webbed feet sticking out of the
grille…and survived. That was because the mallard had got stuck under the bonnet of her grey Ford C-MAX.
The unsuspecting owner only realised the duck was trapped after three days when her dog picked up its scent at the front of her car.
She quickly drove it to a local vet in Baldock, Herts - still stuck in the engine - but they said they were unable to free it.
One of the vets from the Gatehouse Surgery went to the garage opposite to ask for help. They carefully dismantled the front of the car and rescued the duck - remarkably unhurt.
The duck - nicknamed Baldock by the mechanics - was wrapped in a towel and carried back to the vets who are caring for it before it will be released back into the wild.
"The night before she found it her dog was sniffing around the car and she thought thieves had been fiddling with it.
"When she went out to look she saw the duck move.
"She took it to the vets but they said they could not do anything. Luckily we are right opposite.
"We took the front of her car apart very carefully and rescued the duck.
"The duck was trapped behind the bumper, so we had to remove the bumper to get to it. We thought it might have broken a wing but it seemed ok.
"One of the boys wrapped it in a towel and took it back over to the vets."
